Ghanaian fashion label Raffia, headed by Madonna Kendona-Sowah, recently launched their 2015 Capsule collection. Filled with great colourful and sophisticated pieces, this brand brings something unique and different to the African fashion world. With their predominant use the hand woven textile 'Batakari' cloth from Northern Ghana, it brings a nice alternative to the popular use of ankara fabrics in African design.Furthermore, this divergence from the mainstream helps to shine a light on the beauty of traditional northern fabrics and its a capability to create fabulous fashions.
Founded in 2013, Madonna brought together her education in economic development and her love for fashion in establishing this design label, which also provide employment opportunities and education in the Northern and Upper East regions of Ghana.
