Event: My African Corner Scale Up Event Recap

My African Corner is the plug to help you 'Scale Up' your business!!

Earlier in the summer, I attended the first of many events part of My African Corners series of ScaleUp workshops. ScaleUp is an event series designed to connect entrepreneurs of African descent with resources and tools to start, grow and scale their businesses. It was great evening connecting and learning from fellow entrepreneurs.

ScaleUp took place within the Shopify downtown office which has a great space for business workshops like this. As part of the event, we heard from two female entrepreneur speakers who shared their journey growing their business as well as tools they use to scale up their business.

Bili of Tribe Beauty Box
The first speaker was Bili Balogun the founder of Tribe Beauty Box, which is beauty products box subscription service. Subscribers recieve a box of trendy & indie brands every 2 months which included 5 full size products worth over $100. During her talk, Bili shared her knowledge and experience on how to stand out in a noisy market. As we all know, the global beauty industry is HUGE, so it takes a lot of work to stand out of the crowd.

Eden of Black Foodie
Next was Eden Hagos founder of Black Foodie, which is a platform that explores food through a black lens. Black foodie features African and Caribbean cuisine, restaurants, and chefs as well as curates events for foodies to experience various Afro/Caribbeans dishes. Her work has also been featured in the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Essence, and CBC. During her talk, Eden spoke about how to grow a loyal following as she has been able to amass a huge online social media following. In the current Social Media climate, this is a constant struggle.

I love attending these type of events as it is always great to hear the stories and experiences of fellow girl bosses, which provide me with so much inspiration and motivation to continue what I am doing.

Next up in the ScaleUp series is their fall edition 'Build Your Brand' Workshop featuring guest speakers Vivian Kaye founder, of KinkyCurlyYaki, Tomi Gbeleyi founder of Makeup for Melanin Girls and Tayo Bero a radio and online Journalist. This will occur on October 30th.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn from and connect with fellow female entrepreneurs.
