As we get closer to the 2018 Edition of
African Fashion Week Toronto (AFWT), the more my level of excitement grows! I have been lucky enough to have attend this event for the last 3 years, and am so proud to have witnessed the tremendous growth of this fashions week as well as the African fashion industry in Toronto as a whole. It continues to get bigger and bigger, thus I am super existed to see what the 2018 edition has in store!
To kick things off, AFWT has started with their search for the 2018 Face of African Fashion week. Last year, model Zubeida won this coveted title for 2017 and has been rockin' the Toronto fashion scene all year. If you missed how it all when down last year, check out our
2017 Face of AFWT coverage here. It was now time to award a new 2018 Face of AFWT and there was a whole new crop of models ready to battle it out to win the title...
This year, unfortunately I was unable to attend the event in time to witness the whole competition, however, I was able to witness the awarding of the winner and also capture some of the fun moments in the aftermath of the competition.
The event was hosted by the PR Diva herself, Miss Erika. Similar to
last year, the completion consisted of models competing in rounds showcasing their runway walking skills, their swimwear physique, their personal style and their photoshoot posing skills.

Congratulations to the new 2018 Face of African Fashion Week Toronto (AFWT), Kimberly Brown Mighty! Such a stunning model. A definite well deserved win! Can't wait to see her slay it on the runway during the AFWT 2018.

Zubeida
The lovely reigning 2017 Face of AFWT was present at the event to graciously hand over the title to the new winner. We will be interview Zubeida soon to learn about her experience this past year as the Face of AFWT, the great opportunities she has received during her reign and her modeling career aspirations, to stay tuned!
The Judges
The judges this year consisted of the always fabulous model Nini Amerlise who is the 2017 Supermodel Canada Winner, CTV Co-host and Weather Anchor Brandon Gonez, and the serial entrepreneur himself Isaac Ansah, who is also the co-founder of AFWT.

Live Art Painting
The event also include a live art painting by local artist, Kofi's Art. He is such a dope artist and his live paintings are amazing, so this definitely added a nice touch to the event.

For my look to this event, I decided to go the sporty chic route. I've really gotten into sportswear lately, therefore I took this opportunity to rock some of the new sporty pieces I picked up from my recent shopping haul. All roads lead to African Fashion Week Toronto 2018!
This event was a great kick-off to AFWT 2018! I had a great time connecting with the many wonderful people in attendance. I saw familiar faces, met a number of new people and also networked with designers and fellow influencers in attendance.
