Lookbook: African Fashion Week Toronto - Day 1 Looks

Continuing in my coverage of AFWT 2016, here is a glance at the looks I wore for Day 1's Student Competition runway shows.

For the first day of shows, I decided to continue with a another simple Afrocentric outfit where I could allow my accessories to shine....

With the Denise, designer of 'Designs by Yaa'
I collaborated with Designs by Yaa who graciously provided me with a few of her jewelry pieces to wear throughout the AFWT 2016 weekend of events. Therefore, on Day 1 I wore a fabulous Kente necklace from her Queens collection. It was the perfect statement piece to add to my neutral toned look.

Tip: a statement necklace is a great piece to add to simple or neutral toned outfit

To start off, I wore a off the shoulder black and white African print top from my own fashion line 'Chic Afrique' (Look out for more info on this in the near furture) and paired it with a mustard yellow pencil skirt. This would be my neutral base for my more colorful accessories.

Tip: Brighten up a neutral outfit with bold coloured accessories

Skirt: Forever 21 / Shoes: Walmart / Bag: Winners
To compliment my Designs by Yaa Kente necklace, I wore a colourful woven purse and african beaded bracelets I got from Ghana. Furthermore, to accentuate my waist, I added my fave black thin belt with gold details.

Belt: BCBG / Watch: Michael Kors / Bracelets: Ghana

It has been a long week, so wanted to be super comfortable, therefore I opted to rock flats with this look, however the strappy style of these flats provided a cute detail.

Tip: Don't be afraid to wear flats for a night out! A stylish pair of flats will help to maintain a dressy look.

Afterparty Look

Skirt: Forever 21 / Bag: Winners / Shoes: Walmart
After enjoying all the wonderful runways shows, the night was not over. It's party time! I attended the official AFWT 2016 afterparty, which took place at Stori Nightclub. I had initially planned to go straight to the afterparty, however with a bit of time to spare, I decided to go home to do a quick change into a more nighttime party look. So as to stay in line with my original look, I simply changed into a cute red crop top and added another pieces of jewelry from the Designs by Yaa collection, the Ntoma Hoop earrings. Now I was good to go turn up in celebration of African fashion :)

Shout-out to Designs by Yaa for providing me with these beautiful accessories! :) They definitely worked well in complimenting my outfit.
