Real Talk: How Long is Too Long to be Engaged?

 Ok, so Real Talk...

How long is too long to be engaged??? 1yr, 2yrs, 5yrs??

In my opinion, ones engagement should last 1 and a half years, maybe 2 yrs MAX! This is reasonable especially if the couple is trying to save for the weeding. Anything longer than that is waaaayyy to long. If you've been engaged for over 2 years, then someone in the relationship just ain't about that married life lol...

I never understood how people can be engaged for sooo long. For those who say it is to save for the wedding, if you can't afford a big wedding then keep it small and simple. You should do what is within your means and not put yourself in debt. What is most important is that you are marrying the person you love. I have seen that some young African couples have shifted to doing just the traditional wedding, as they recognize that the money they would spend on doing a huge full out white wedding can be better spent building their future together or buying a house.

For those in long engagement not for financial reasons, but due to one person not being ready to set a date or begin the wedding preparations...Pause! If you've been waiting 3yrs, 5yrs, and some even 10yrs to do your wedding, you might as well forget about it and just be common law partners or walk away from the relationship, cuz ain't nobody got time to waste waiting lol. Yes, some have legitimate reasons for their prolonged engagement or unexpected circumstances can occur that require waiting longer, however at some point that reason is no longer an excuse. Nevertheless, at the end of the day to each their own, as some are ok with having extra long engagements for their own specific reasons. Well, I'm just keeping it real.

...so real talk, what are your thoughts?
