Events: Supafrik x The Drake Afrobeats Pop-Up + Party

Spring is finally here, which means an increase in fun events happening in the city!

Now, y'all know I love to be out and about checking out different events and exploring new activities. So, I thought I'd start to share the many fun events and activities I come across so that y'all can check them out as well.

A upcoming event that I'm looking forward to attending is the Supafrik x The Drake Afrobeats Pop-Up + Party, which is going down this Sunday, May 1st at The Drake Hotel. This will be a day party combined with a pop-up shop offering collections of African inspired fashion and prints. What a great added bonus to the party; I'm all for shopping while partying on a Sunday afternoon!

As the popularity of day parties has started to increase in Toronto over the last couple of years, I have been saying for a long time that someone needs to start holding regular African Afrobeat day parties in Toronto as well. I travel a lot and have seen that there is already this culture of African Day parties established in many US cities. Therefore, with the large African and Afrobeat lover population in Toronto, we definitely need to catch up. This is a great event to start developing a day party culture here, so really glad to see this happening. Big ups to Chinedu and his team!

Afrobeats Pop-Up + Party
We're jump starting this Toronto spring thing again with our second annual daytime pop-up shop and party on the Drake Hotel's Sky Yard!

We’re bringing that SUPAFRIK energy to Queen West once again! The focus is on the DJs and their unique blend of urban African sounds. Not to be confused with Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat (without the s), Afrobeats is a catch all term originating in the UK that refers to different electronic dance music genres from the African continent and African crews in London, Lisbon and Paris. From Ghanaian Azonto to Angolan Kuduro to South African House. DJs Deemaks, DJ Camron and Dj Revy B will submerge the Sky Yard patio in bass heavy Afrobeats sets with splashes of R&B, hip-hop, reggae and pop. Black Stars will be spicing things up with some Azonto vibes and Tai B will be lensing the events in a special way. Room 222 will host a pop-up shop selling a collection of African-inspired summer/spring fashion and art prints.
